Licensed Real Estate Broker
Licensed as Barbara Susan Fox
President, Fox Residential Group, Inc.
In 1989, Barbara Fox created Fox Residential Group as a boutique real estate firm specializing in the sale of upscale residential properties on Manhattan's Upper East and West Sides. Barbara had previously established herself as one of New York's prominent real estate brokers and managers, having created and led a residential division of over 60 brokers for the large commercial firm of Cross & Brown Company.
Beginning with five brokers, Fox Residential Group currently has over 45 brokers, assisting clients and customers in the purchase, sale, and rental of cooperative, condominium and rental apartments, townhouses and mansions throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn, and of private homes in Westchester County. In October, 2004, Barbara formed a special division to represent developers and sponsors of new residential projects, handling the sale of such properties as upper Park Avenue's first new development in over 30 years, 985 Park, and a recent development at 52 Laight Street in Tribeca.
In 1997, Barbara was honored as the recipient of the Henry Forster Memorial Award for an outstanding record of lifetime achievement in residential real estate. She has been named one of the top 20 residential brokers in Manhattan and is listed in Who's Who in America and other such publications. Fox Residential Group was on the Millennium Issue list as one of America's Elite 1000 businesses.
In 1988, Barbara was a founding member of the Residential Committee of the Real Estate Board of New York. In the years since, in addition to selling properties and running her company, she has been an active member of REBNY - chairing and serving on numerous committees and spearheading many projects and initiatives for the organization. Barbara sits on the Residential Board of Directors and has previously served on REBNY's Board of Governors. She was recently appointed to the Board of Advisors of NYRS, the certified program that recognizes top NYC residential real estate brokers with the highest professional credentials.
From its inception in 1989, Barbara has served on, and in recent years, chaired the committee that oversees the residential industry's main fundraising event, the Residential Deal of the Year Charity Gala. For many years, the funds raised supported charities serving the homeless of New York City; more recently, the beneficiary has been the Member in Need Fund, which assists residential members of REBNY who have fallen on hard times. Outside of REBNY, Barbara's most significant service to the community has been as the founder and head of an animal rescue organization. WOOF! Dog and Cat Rescue annually saves over 100 homeless animals from being euthanized at New York City shelters, re-socializes each of them in foster homes, tends to their medical needs, and finds them permanent loving homes.
A native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Barbara resides on the Upper East Side of Manhattan with her husband, James Freund, a retired Skadden Arps senior partner, and a variety of dogs and cats. On weekends at her Connecticut home, she likes to romp with her dogs, play tennis, and garden.
